People Unite for Justice and Accountability (PUJA) is a transformative project spearheaded by the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka in collaboration with various dedicated partners, including Right to Life Human Rights Center, Peace and Community Action, the Center for Human Rights and Development, and Verité Research. This initiative is a concerted effort to address the deeply rooted issues of impunity and human rights violations in Sri Lanka, aiming to foster long-term reconciliation and peace through independent, credible, transparent, and effective justice processes.

What is Purpose

The primary purpose of PUJA is to build public support for justice and accountability processes across ethnic divides in Sri Lanka. The project aims to:

Advocate for Multiple Justice Processes:

Strategically advocate for various instruments and processes to ensure justice and accountability for all crimes, including economic and war crimes.

Facilitate Truth-Telling and Memorialization:

Encourage collaboration across ethnic and other divides to facilitate truth-telling and memorialization, centered around the needs and perspectives of victims and their families.

Support Victims and Survivors:

Assist civil society organizations (CSOs) engaged in truth-telling work, victims, survivors, and their families to resiliently pursue justice and closure.
