Priyanthi Kaluperuma, a resident of Amarathungama in the Agunakolapelessa Divisional Secretariat area, has endured decades of grief and hardship. On February 24, 1990, her husband, Jaliyagoda Ariyapala, disappeared without a trace. She reported his disappearance to the Agunakolapelessa Police on March 4, but her quest for justice was met with hostility. Police officers not only dismissed her pleas but also drove her away from the station. At the time, she was just 26 years old.
Years later, through the Office on Missing Persons, Priyanthi and her two children received compensation of Rs. 25,000 each. Along with this, she was issued a death certificate for her husband, stating that he had been abducted by unidentified individuals and buried at an unknown location.
Now living a life of struggle and deprivation, Priyanthi continues to demand fair compensation and justice for her family.
